The legendary Shady Character NYC James Dean, manufactured for a very short time in the 1980s, when Tart Optical Enterprise decided to bring back the Arnel frame, one of their most Iconic shapes worn by James Dean in the 1960s. As the license from the James Dean Foundation expired, Tart was pulled into a lawsuit and forced to immediately stop production and distribution of the Shady Character NYC James Dean, making it one of the rarest frames to come by. The incident ultimately lead to the demise of the small New York City manufacture based on 135 West 27th Street, right off West Broadway in Chelsea, Manhattan. Until today, the Shady Character NYC James Dean remains one of the most iconic frames ever produced. As worn by James Dean, Johnny Depp and many others.
